On Tuesday. March 11, 2025, members of Stump Sound Lodge 733 gathered to honor the memory of Brother Bill Schmauss, a dedicated Freemason for 60 years. In a heartfelt ceremony, the lodge presented an endowment to his widow, Pat Schmauss, and his daughter, Pam Wooten, alongside her husband, Steve. This tribute reflects Bill’s lifelong commitment to Masonry and ensures his legacy continues within the lodge. His devotion and impact will always be remembered by his Masonic brothers.

2025 York Rite Spring Festival
Brotherhood in Action: On April 5, 2025 New Bern York Rite held it's annual Sprint Festival. Our Junior Deacon and three other Master Masons were Exalted to the most sublime degree of Royal Arch, greeted a select master in the Council, and dubbed and created a Knight Templar. With the help of Sir Knights and Companions from Greenville York Rite Bodies, Wilmington NC York Rite Bodies, Elizabeth City York Rite, Washington York Rite Masonic Bodies and the esteemed presence of Past and Present NC Grand York Rite Officers.
Secretary 90th Birthday Celebration
Bob McLaughlin, a proud and active member of Stump Sound Masonic Lodge 733, was born in Kentucky and raised in Detroit. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction for 31 years. A Vietnam Veteran, Bob was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery and leadership, and retired in 1984 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his military career, he served as both a Drill Instructor and Scuba Instructor. He also pursued his education while in the service, ultimately earning a Master’s degree. Bob was initiated into Lafayette Lodge and has been a dedicated Mason for an impressive 64 years. His service includes acting as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina in 1993-94. He is also a proud member of the National Sojourners, having served twice as president of the Jacksonville chapter. Deeply rooted in his faith, Bob serves as a Deacon at Catalyst Church in Jacksonville, where he also leads a life group, offering guidance and fellowship to others. Bob is the proud father of two children, grandfather to three, and great-grandfather to five. His hobbies include collecting Lionel trains, Hess toy trucks, old water pumps, antiques, and gardening. He also tends to 14 chickens at home, adding to his active lifestyle. Remarkably, he continues to work as an insurance agent and recently celebrated his 90th birthday on March 22nd. Bob’s life is a testament to service, dedication, and the joy of lifelong learning and giving.
Historic Preservation in New Bern
Stump Sound Lodge No. 733 Supports Historic Preservation in New Bern Stump Sound Lodge No. 733 is proud to have contributed $100 to the Building Maintenance Fund of St. John's Lodge No. 3 in New Bern, one of the oldest and most historically significant Masonic Lodges in North Carolina. This donation supports the ongoing preservation of their historic building—an enduring symbol of Masonic heritage and community service. In recognition of this contribution, Stump Sound Lodge was honored with a commemorative plaque, now proudly displayed on the stairs of the St. John's Lodge building. It serves as a lasting token of fraternal support and unity among North Carolina Freemasons, and a reminder of the importance of preserving our shared legacy. We are grateful to stand in support of St. John's No. 3 and their mission to safeguard this treasured piece of Masonic history for generations to come.
25 Years in Masonry
Stump Sound Lodge No. 733 is proud to recognize two of our distinguished Brothers for their unwavering dedication and commitment to the Craft. On this special occasion, we were honored to present 25-Year Service Awards to Brother Jerry Hairston and Brother Frank Wullenwaber. For a quarter of a century, these Brothers have exemplified the values of Freemasonry—faith, integrity, brotherly love, relief, and truth. Their steadfast devotion to the Lodge and the Fraternity serves as a shining example of what it means to live by our Masonic principles, both inside and outside the Lodge. We extend our deepest gratitude to Brothers Hairston and Wullenwaber for their years of service, leadership, and friendship. Milestones such as this remind us of the timeless bond that unites us as Masons and the lasting impact our Brethren make through their service. As we celebrate these achievements, we also look forward to the years ahead, continuing the work of building stronger men, stronger Lodges, and stronger communities.
